MY STORY: THE HIGH-ACHIEVER WHO COULDN'T STOP
Hi, I'm Selina—and I've been a high achiever for as long as I can remember.
I started yoga at 17 and completed my first teacher training by 19. But I didn't start teaching right away because I was way too insecure. Even though movement has always been in my bones; I was the girl choreographing dance routines and leading performances in primary school with my friends. I never imagined it would become the thread that wove through my entire life.
But that first step into yoga set me on a much deeper journey. A lifelong quest to understand who I am and what my path is truly meant to be.
Even with a decade of personal development, a degree in vitality management, and a certification as a lifestyle coach, I couldn't see the pattern that was leading me off a cliff.
My high-achiever identity had taken the wheel.
By 30, my body finally screamed loud enough to make me listen. I woke up with so much menstrual pain, I had to call my ex-boyfriend to come and help me. That was the moment I heard it:
"Do you really need to land in the hospital before you listen to your body crying and screaming for you to stop?" The voice echoed, lingering in my thoughts.
So I did something drastic. I quit my high-pressure job as a health center manager (which I thought was the problem). I sold my house. I learned Italian. And I went back to my body. (very Eat, pray, love I know)
I completed my third yoga teacher training and disappeared into the woods of Montana to study Budokon; a fusion of yoga, martial arts, and animal crawling movements. There, I stepped into my wild side and became, as they say, a "Guru Killer and Warrior Woman."
So when I opened my own yoga & coaching studio... I thought things would be different...
But even though I was technically "free," I still overworked. Still skipped meals. Still skipped breaks. Still felt guilty for resting.
No one was telling me what to do this time, but the pressure hadn't gone anywhere. Only this time, I noticed.
The tension in my jaws. The insomnia. The acne flaring back up. The constant exhaustion. The restlessness that made true rest (and sleep) feel impossible.
That was the beginning of everything changing. I started paying attention. I got curious. I made small shifts - one at a time.
And I asked myself the question that changed it all: Why do I still feel like I have to push so hard, even when no one's asking me to? For who am I STILL achieving?
That's how my Natural Rhythm Method was born.
I began tracking the habits and patterns that left me drained. And I replaced them with practices that helped me feel grounded now, not just someday in the future.
I made myself a promise: I would never sacrifice my well-being in the name of ambition again. Not even for my own dreams.
I had to drop the perfectionism and let go of the belief that my worth was tied to how hard I worked. And admit that constantly "optimizing" my life wasn't actually helping me live it.
I stopped chasing rigid routines and instead created a way of moving through my days that felt aligned, sustainable, and mine.
Just like I learned through Budokon that softness and strength can co-exist, that a soft yoga girl can also kick ass with martial arts. I began translating that alignment of strength and softness into my life; a life where structure and surrender, hard work and ease, could exist together.
After 5 years of experimenting, I built a method I wish we were all taught in school:
A way to design a life for yourself that includes joy, not just productivity
A way to work with your cycle and your changing energy as a woman, so you can adapt your plans without losing productivity or creativity.
A way to let go of the beliefs you've outgrown and build your own definition of success
